Mom jeans, however, are an exception—or at least, they are now. Although the 2003 Saturday Night Live Sketch that popularized the phrase mom jeans did so as a pejorative (and the jeans did languish in uncoolness for more than a decade afterward), they’ve enjoyed a recent renaissance. Today, the silhouette—thick, nonstretchy denim with a high waist, straight legs, and a moderately loose, or “relaxed,” fit—can regularly be seen on models, influencers, and “VSCO girl” types on Instagram. Mom jeans, profoundly uncool and then suddenly very cool, got their revenge: The cyclical nature of fashion (and a mid-2010s shift in the national mood) helped rescue and revive a style that was long overshadowed by reductive stereotypes about moms and motherhood.
ROUND GLASSES – 20S
Circular frames have been creeping back into style slowly but surely for a couple of years now. This trend originated in the 1920s and made a comeback in the 70s largely due to the influence of folks like John Lennon and Janis Joplin. In 2019 we are seeing them again, and it’s a delightful blast from the past.
What’s old is new again. Fashion trends tend to come full circle, and round eyeglasses frames are making a major comeback.
This stylish frame shape lends a relaxed, retro vibe and would look great as either an everyday pair of eyeglasses or a pair of sunglasses for the weekend. Reminiscent of the styles worn by John Lennon and Andy Warhol, round glasses will leave you looking effortlessly cool.
The round frame glasses were always an item we all felt pulled towards. It might be due to the perfect round shape or the superstar look they give us.
Circle frame glasses as the current must-have, bring a whole new set of options for glasses to consider. Depending on your face shape, there is a variation of the round frame/pantos frame that would fit you.
CORDUROY – 70S
Corduroy jeans, jackets, purses, and everything was extremely popular in the 70s, and since then the fabric has mainly been used for children’s clothing. Now, corduroy is coming back around, with pieces like the corduroy skirt being particularly fashionable.
"Corduroy is such a great fabric as it is so tactile, the fabric has an element of softness and comfort to it making it perfect for the colder months," Suzanne Pendlebury, Head of Womenswear Buying at MATCHESFASHION tells TZR. "I also love that it evokes a retro feel which adds a charm to the fabric." A notable component of why corduroy comes back in style season after season is its adaptability. "Cord is such an easy fabric to wear as it can lend itself well to softer relaxed silhouettes and also to more structured, tailored pieces," Pendlebury adds. For the last several decades, corduroy has proven its worth in autumn wardrobes. Ahead, take a look at some iconic cord moments from the past as well as Fall/Winter 2020 runway and street style moments to take inspiration from for the months ahead.
CHUNKY SNEAKERS – 80SThe 80s was the decade of the sneaker. Everyone was wearing Levi’s and white tennis shoes, the chunkier the better. Today, this trend is back in full swing, with designer brands like Yeezy and Gucci producing some of the chunkiest shoes to date.
WHITE BOOTS – 70S

CHOKERS – 90S

HIGH WAISTED JEANS – 80S

SCRUNCHIES – 90S
Tight, elastic hair bands are starting to be swapped out for a softer, more delicate option from the past – scrunchies! Scrunchies are back and seem to be a hit among celebrities and the masses, and for good reason! These hair ties are much better for your hair health than elastic hair bands. They create less friction and breakage on hair and are less likely to leave bends in hair from being tied up. Plus, they’re back in style! It’s a win-win.
CARGO PANTS – 90S
